William Donegan Jr. – Patient Care Tech

Name: William Donegan Jr.
Program: Patient Care Technician
Graduation Date: 3/10/15

After successfully completing Healthcare Training Institute’s Patient Care Technician course, William Donegan Jr. worked in the Trinitas Regional Medical Center Emergency Room as part of his externship. He now works in the same ER and plans to further his nursing studies.

“I heard about the school through a friend of mine who had excellent things to say about the school and my interest was piqued, especially after I met with a representative from the school to discuss the different programs they offer,” said William, a resident of Elizabeth, New Jersey. “I have learned so much over this past year-and-a-half. Everyone—from the teachers to administrative staff—was so incredibly helpful. They made sure you understood the work and did not leave the program unless you were 100 percent ready. Not only the teachers, but also my classmates were the most incredible people I have met. We support and help each other every step, and every class.”

“I did receive help from Vinnie in Externship Placement, and was subsequently hired at Trinitas Regional Medical Center” in Elizabeth. “Vinnie gave me the option of doing my externship in a doctor’s office or hospital setting. She gave me information about all the differences between the two, and gave me different place options to choose from.”

William encourages everyone considering committing to health care training. “Just do it. The thoughts of starting your education from the beginning and of the workload can be scary. Just know and think to yourself that there is an end point, it will come faster than you realize, and once you reach it, you will be so incredibly happy and grateful that you listened to yourself and went through with it.”

“It’s for your own future, to better yourself, and there is no reason strong enough not to let yourself continue your education with HTI,” Donegan says, noting that he felt “absolutely” prepared to enter the health care workforce.

“When I was completing my externship at the Trinitas Emergency Room, I felt at ease and immediately comfortable with all duties I was assigned.” Donegan is now employed in that same ER. “I was hired at the end of my externship.”

“Since graduating, I have such a stronger sense of self and confidence,” he says. “I have really figured myself out and what I want in my life and it is such an amazing feeling.”

Donegan is ready to embrace new health care challenges, having enrolled in the Trinitas School of Nursing program, in partnership with Union County College, which began in May 2015. “I am super-excited about this,” he added. “I cannot wait to start and advance my career.”
