Patient Care Technicians (PCT) have daily hands-on experiences with patients, performing procedures such as drawing blood, administering ECGs, taking vital signs, preparing patients for physical exams, and directly assisting physicians and nurses with clinical procedures.

Our patient care technician training program is designed to generate the PCT, a vital member of the healthcare team, who will be expected to perform clinical and administrative duties in a medical office, nursing home, and hospital.

Our PCT training program will teach you the following job duties and responsibilities: 

  • Drawing blood
  • Carrying out clinical procedures
  • Assisting in minor surgery procedures
  • Managing wound care
  • Administering ECGs
  • Performing emergency room skills
  • Preparing patients for physical exams
  • Taking patient vital signs
  • Conducting routine office-lab procedures

The patient care technician training curriculum will demonstrate knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, clinical and administrative, EKG, phlebotomy procedures, pharmaceutical procedures, infection control procedures, nurse aide in long-term care, and performance of injection. The patient care technician will be expected to handle administrative office procedures including filing and writing reports, preparing protocol, and scheduling. Because PCTs work with patients on a daily basis, they must to have good communication skills and be attentive and empathetic to people’s needs.

A certificate is awarded to a student upon successful completion of all graduation requirements listed in the student catalog.

Patient care technicians in New Jersey are typically employed in hospitals, doctors’ offices, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, and other health care facilities. They may provide home health care services as well. This career has a bright outlook!

There will be an increased need for health care workers as the industry expands due to the growth and aging of the population, therefore job outlook for Patient Care Technicians is very good. All health care-related occupations are projected to increase by more than 10% nationally through 2022, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
