Patient Care Technician Success Story

I chose the Patient Care Technician program because I already had Patient Care experience and I wanted to utilize and strengthen my previously acquired knowledge. I heard about the school from a neighbor who graduated before me. The school had everything I needed to learn; the small and personal class sizes and the program offered the tools that I needed to continue growing in this field.

I had a great experience at Healthcare Training Institute, I was lucky enough to have Dr. Gabr as my instructor the entire time until the C.N.A portion of the program, for which I had Ms. Cook as an instructor. I definitely feel that I have gained a great amount of knowledge from them both.

I faced many challenges while in school; too many to count. Some of the most difficult ones where being a single mother who lost her job and having a medically compromised toddler all while in school. I had to learn to balance home life and school life to achieve my goal of finishing. Money was always an issue at this time, I never had enough; but payment pans, compromises and accommodations were always made to assist me. I learned that it’s the people you’d least expect who are always there to lend you a helping hand.

I received job placement assistance. Paula was great, from the venting sessions to creating and pushing my resume. She was always there! She listened to me and gave suggestions when I was at my breaking points on a few occasions, being under so much pressure and facing so many challenges.

I would tell all of you who might be afraid about making a commitment to your education; the most important thing in this world is YOU! You have to do this for you, push yourself, if you don’t finish you will end up with many regrets!

Since graduating from HTI I have a great job. Let me repeat: A GREAT JOB! I went on several interviews and after a few I found the perfect job for me. It was worth the wait! I am working as a unit assistant performing Patient Care Technician duties and utilizing skills that I learned at HTI. I have learned so much about me… you have to push through and always do your best. If there are no doors, climb through a window. There is no window? Make a hole but always PUSH FORWARD. The number of staff at my new job is very small, which means everyone has to be a team player and play several roles. I definitely feel needed here! I feel that HTI prepared me and equipped me for my job and the medicalfield in general. My future goal is to be a Nurse Practitioner in Nephrology to always be able to care for my daughter’s medical condition and other children in the same situation. HTI was not a final destination,it was a stepping stone for my future goals!

Thank you HTI, I’m not where I want to be but because of you all I’m definitely a lot closer. As I travel through this journey of life I’m learning that my children are watching every move I make. As I begin to lay my foundation of life, brick by brick, piece by piece I’m finding me in the process. Thank you for giving me hope when I had none. Thank you for building me up when I was crumbling.
