Fundamentals of Adult Echocardiography

echocardio classes

This basic echocardiography course serves as an introduction to use of ultrasound imaging in cardiac evaluation. The lab and didactic portions are correlated in the teaching of normal echocardiography anatomy, techniques, and instrumentation pertaining to heart study. Specific knowledge/skill transfer processes are accomplished with “2D imaging,” “MMode,” and introduction to “Spectral & Color Flow.”
At Healthcare Training Institute, the program is designed to provide the student/ participant with the skills and knowledge necessary to prepare the program graduate to apply for an entry‐level echocardiography job.
A certificate is awarded to the student upon successful completion of all graduation requirements listed in the student catalog.

Most echo techs work in hospitals, but others may find employment in doctor’s offices, outpatient clinics, cardiac rehab facilities, medical laboratories, or mobile companies and imaging centers. Based on data provided by the Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS), echo tech and cardiovascular technician employment is expected to increase by 30% between the years of 2012 and 2022.

[FECP 01] SECTION I- CARDIOVASCULAR ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY

This area covers the Anatomy and Physiology related to heart, blood vessels and other chest structures within thoracic cavity.

[FEUP 02] SECTION II- INTRODUCTION TO PHYSICS REVIEW

This segment covers a basic review of Ultrasound Physics, Thermodynamics and Instrumentation with emphasis on topics that are vital to Echocardiography.

[FEIE 03] SECTION III- INTRODUCTION TO ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY

This segment covers the various scanning planes used for echocardiography such as left parasternal long-axis, left parasternal short-axis, Apical ( 4- chambers, 5- chambers, 3- chambers & 2- chambers views); Sub-costal (4-chambers, short-axis and IVC/liver views), and suprasternal view of the aorta. In addition to 2D, the participants will also learn the application of M-mode, pulse wave Doppler and colorflow Doppler.

[FECD 04] SECTION IV- INTRODUCTION TO CARDIAC DISEASES

This portion covers the etiologies; echo features and diagnostic criteria for various valvular disorders, coronary artery disease, pericardial diseases and cardiomyopathies.

[FEHE 05] SECTION V- HANDS-ON ECHO TRAINING

The students will learn practical applications of the above mentioned planes and the application of M. mode and Doppler in the laboratories.

[FERW 06] SECTION VI- REVIEW

This section will cover a comprehensive review for final exams which will both include theoretical and practical aspects of echocardiography.
